Probably one of my favourite cities to visit now is Chicago! A mini New York in my opinion, I never get tired of seeing the sun bouncing off the brilliantly beautiful skyscrapers and the city has so much within walking distance.
One of the known things to make sure you do in Chicago is to travel up the 103 floors of the Willis Tower Skydeck (or 94 floors up the John Hancock Observatory) to look out onto miles of Chicago and out onto the state of Illinois featuring the sea of skyscrapers and the stunning Lake Michigan.
The Willis Tower also features the clear observation windows allowing you to see just how high you’re standing directly beneath your feet – and you can do all sorts of poses to get those Insta pics if you so wish (I’d just recommend doing it on a weekday as our wait for these views averaged at about 2 hours on a Saturday!)
Another tourist attraction is the Navy Pier – with it’s Big Wheel, plentiful food opportunities and gorgeous views out onto the Chicago skyline, it’s a great way to spend some time in this city.
Also if you’re nearby and jetlagged meaning you’re up at 6am like me, I love to take a run along the Lake Michigan and down the pier to watch the sunrise before heading round Millenium Park and back to my hotel.
Capturing beautiful views like this gives me all the feels!
Now, unfortunately, I didn’t get any great pictures of this but I’m sure a simple google will tell you all you need to know – or you’ve probably already heard of it! I was unaware of the beautiful monstrosity that is Giordano’s Pizza – one of the famous deep-dish Chicago pizza parlours – but one slice quite certainly blew my little Pizza Express mind!!
Chicago pizzas are one for the visit I certainly think – maybe not quite as authentic as Italy but still a must do when in this awesome city! Other places I’ve been recommended by visitors and residents alike include; Pizza Oven Grinder and Parlor Pizza Bar.
Now, as a Brit another very exciting past time for whenever I’m in America has been my bankrupting but always worthwhile visits to Bath and Body Works! I’d most definitely recommend visiting during one of their sales which are phenomenal (way better than English sales!) and picking up on or two (dozen 😏) of their amazing 3-wick candles – even better during their Autumn range!
Not sponsored, I just love a good Autumnal candle and I was blow away by the strength, scents and quality here, it’s not wonder they’ve got such a great reputation! No joke, every time I used their Pumpkin Cupcake hand cream someone nearby picked up on it and asked who smelt so great!? 🙋♀️
If you’re a shopper the malls and highstreet shops have pretty much all you could want, with both the high end Gucci, Tiffany & Saks Fifth as well as more high street H&M, Top Shop & Forever 21 – it might be an idea to bring a large suitcase.
And obviously one of Chicago’s landmarks is the Cloud Gate (also known as ‘The Bean’), a sculpture inspired by liquid mercury and designed by Anish Kapoor. The popular sculpture uses 168 stainless steel plates to reflect the Chicago skyline making it distorted in view and a pretty cool picture!
Situated in Millenium Park, it’s a great spot for a wander in amongst all the buildings and it also houses a lot of outdoor events and concerts for a little more liveliness.
A city just full of immense beauty and amazing food, one of my favourite things to do is the just walk around. I love seeing the tall towering buildings over the top of me and then walking out by the mesmerising Lake Michigan.
Anyone ever visited Chicago? Any more tips?
