Life is Too Short

I know a lot of people have published posts about the tragic event in Manchester just weeks ago, (edit: and now many of the other terrible events that have yet followed) and I wasn’t quite sure whether or not to post this, but it’s still a valid point that I was only reminded of due to the events. Although this will continue to haunt a great number of people, I and many others who weren’t directly affected (of course we’re all affected but what I mean by that is those who weren’t there/knew anyone there), will now have moved on and continued with our everyday lives. This post is simply a little reminder that although life goes on and we must continue to work and live, this has just proved once again how short life can be and how important it is to live the life we enjoy and are proud of.

It makes me think about the number of young children and people at different stages of their lives, not only through the recent attacks or the Grenfell Tower fire but through a whole number of other causes throughout the world who have lost their lives. And this is heart shuddering. I’m not saying I’m wasting my life and I’m not saying that we need to be happy or grateful every moment of every day, but just being thankful for living, is sometimes are very simple but necessary task.

To be thankful simply for the opportunity to experience today and likely tomorrow. To make the most of the time I have and to fulfill the life I would be proud of.

Think about what these young children are robbed of. Travel. Relationship. Sex. Love. University. Work. Marriage. Children. Family. It makes me think of how lucky I am, not only to have been allowed to grow to the age of 21 but, if I take of myself, to be likely to experience many more years to come and for the incredible experiences I’ve been given throughout my life that others would quite literally dream of!

In moments like these, I take a moment and actually appreciate all the things I take for granted. The things that at this moment in time, some people are perhaps suffering without.

The sunshine
My healthy family
My incredible, supportive friends
A roof over my head
My health
Financial security
Food and Clean Water
Freedom to do what I want (i.e. never again will I be forced to spend 8 hours a day in a lab!)
Finishing my degree ^
The opportunity to attend university
A home to go back to once I leave
Opportunity to go travelling
Everywhere I’ve travelled (- I can’t thank my parent’s enough for their jobs!)
My kindness

Every day, it’s important to ask and answer these questions: “What’s good in my life?” and “What needs to be done?”~ Nathaniel Branden

These are just some of the things that I’m currently thankful for and as I started to write them down, other ideas just started to flow and I could probably write a hell of a lot more, but that’s not the point of this post and would probably bore the hell out of you!

The point is, whoever you are, wherever you are, and whatever you’re doing (Ok I know you’re reading this, but the power of three sounded more effective), just take a moment, think of the people you love. Think of the things you love about yourself. Think about the things you have and that make you happy. And if you’re not happy where you are at the moment, think of how you can change that.

Girl I couldn't agree with this post anymore; I think with everything going on right now it's truly shook people to the core – life really is so very precious so it's so important to live it to the very fullest! My heart aches for the lives lost, I still can't come to terms with what happened here in our beautiful country, truly heartbreaking!Hayley

I know, it's heartbreaking having to wake up to these news! And I can't imagine just what these people and families are going through!

Carry on the conversation, I'd love to know your thoughts
