This never happens let’s be honest, New Year yes, but I don’t really change much to be honest. I’ve always thought that New Year was a nice idea though and the idea of New Year’s resolutions are good too. It is refreshing being able to start again and feeling like you can do whatever you want to do!
However, I’ve realised that I don’t really restrict myself in making resolutions to just the New Year, I think we are constantly changing and improving ourselves and if doing something one way doesn’t work there’s no reason to wait for next year or wait till the end of the week to put a change to it.
I do think little goals are good to have at the back of your mind, but I can’t say I ever really stick to them rigidly (ie I don’t beat myself up at the end of the year if I haven’t stuck to all my resolutions) in fact I’ve stopped writing them down and tbh can’t even remember what they were last year!
In saying that I thought I’d share a few I’ve come up with based on how I’m feeling now and how I want to kick off 2016;
- Get out more.
I need to have a bit more fun, I think. I spend way too much time studying and worrying when really the things I worry about aren’t even worth it. I really want to spend more time with my friends and family and just getting out and experiencing things more. To start this resolution, I’m joining a new society at uni and potentially join a new club or just attend some more one-off events with people. I was recently emailed a site; Eventbrite, that you can search for events or clubs in a certain area or of a certain criteria to take part in, which I think I’ll have a look at, anyone ever used it before? And if anyone’s interested you can also sell tickets to your own event online.
- Spend more!
Maybe this one isn’t quite that literal. Rather, spend more on better things. Again, going back to my ridiculous worrying, I’m a money saver and I’m constantly worried about how I’m going to afford to live next year or buy so-and-so a good birthday present! I feel just spending a little more here and there will help me feel more comfortable and get out and experience things and have some fun.
- Eat more!
A constant resolution over the past few years and one I never really see the importance of. But this year is going to be different, I’m going to put all my energy into recovery and enjoying my life rather than my worries of the future and my petty studies, health is more important now.
- Finish my new books.
A little one here, but more specific and definitely achievable; I got the two new Robert Galbraith books for Christmas and I’m buzzing to read them. The minute these stupid exams are over, my face will be deep within those books, not asleep deep into my notes!
- Worry less
To round all of the above off, and sticking to probably the most consistent of New Year’s Resolutions over however many years, worry less. I don’t want to look back on my 20s (Oh god I’m 20 now!) and think I’d wasted it all on worrying about my future financial situation, my body, career prospects or making mistakes. The time is now.
So these are a few of my New Year’s resolutions, just quick points I might want to refer back to during the year to remind myself of what’s really important, or how I want to be living my life!
